He Tried Our Programs Twice. Here Is What Happened Next.

Back in 2017, a founder named Victor Salinas walked through our doors when we were still called LatAm Startups. He was one of the first to try our programs, and neither of us knew exactly what we were doing yet.

That is the honest version of the story.

Victor tried our bootcamps. Twice. He went through our market entry programs, joined us for the New York international bootcamp, and navigated the Startup Visa program at a time when none of those paths were straightforward. Some things went very wrong. Others went very right. And through all of it, we were figuring things out together.

What happened next is the part we are most proud of. Victor did not just survive the process. He became someone others turned to. He joined DMZ, MaRS, and the Accelerator Centre, becoming one of the first members of our community to be accepted into programs that, at the time, were not easy doors to open for founders like him. He proved that companies like Smartconcil had real value, and that local institutions would recognize it once they saw it clearly.

But his impact on us went deeper than his own journey.

Victor was part of our community during a moment that shaped how we think about people. He was there the first time Global Startups went through a team transition, when early employees moved on and we had to figure out what that meant for an organization like ours. He helped us understand something important: the people who come through our community are not meant to stay forever. They come, they contribute, they grow, and they move forward. That cycle repeats roughly every two years, and it is not a loss. It is proof that the community is working.

Because of Victor, and founders like him, we understood that we are a grassroots community. The people who pass through us, whether as clients, team members, or volunteers, leave better than they arrived. And so do we.

Victor has hired locally, paid taxes, volunteered, taught in colleges, and spent almost a decade learning and contributing in ways that go well beyond his own company. He is a good new Canadian in the truest sense of the phrase.

As we turn 10 this September, we want to thank Victor for being our client, our friend, our advisor, and our mirror. We love watching Smartconcil thrive, and we are proud to still have him as part of this community.
