Jorge Gilberto Moraes arrived in Canada with a clear idea: the trucking industry was overdue for a greener future, and he was going to help build it. That was 2022. Today, he leads Valentir Green Tech, a company helping commercial fleets across Canada become safer, smarter, and greener. What happened in between is a story worth telling.
Jorge came in through the Global Startups program at a time when clean tech for commercial fleets was a niche most people in the industry were not yet paying serious attention to. His company, then called K3 Green Tech, was working on battery solutions for heavy transportation. The technology had merit, but the fit with the Canadian market was not there. Not every idea that works in theory lands in the right place at the right time, and Jorge had to reckon with that honestly.
What Jorge navigated over the following years was not the ordinary turbulence of building a company. There were changes in direction, changes in the team, the complexity of building in a new country while his family was still finding its footing. And then, in March 2024, Jorge and his family lost their son Valentin.
What happens to a person after something like that is not something a business profile can fully hold. What I can say is that by the time of Valentin’s passing, Jorge had built something beyond a company. At the celebration of life, founders from the Global Startups community and people from across his network came together around his family. That is not something you plan. It is something you earn, quietly, over years of showing up for others.
What is visible is what Jorge did next: he kept going. Not in spite of what happened, but in some way because of it.
Earlier this month, Jorge announced that K3 Green Tech is becoming Valentir Green Tech. The name comes directly from Valentin. Jorge described his son as someone who faced an incredibly difficult journey with courage, resilience, and joy. He wanted Valentir Green Tech to carry those same values forward.
Valentir Green Tech helps commercial fleets become safer, smarter, and greener through fleet intelligence, telematics, video telematics, safety technologies, and cleaner mobility solutions. The focus has sharpened around small and medium-sized fleets and owner-operators, the people running two trucks or ten who need practical tools, not complicated systems. Jorge has been spending time at industry events, talking to fleet owners, listening before building.
This Thursday, Valentir Green Tech makes its first public appearance under the new brand at the TechPlace Annual Open House in Burlington.
Jorge once told me: when God gives you lemons, you make caipirinhas, because yeah, Brazil, you are not just for the lemonade.
