Ten Years In, We're Celebrating the Companies Who Grew With Us

This year marks Global Startups’ 10th anniversary. Since 2016, over 340 startups have been part of this community. We’ve worked alongside local, provincial, and federal government, grown out of what began as LatAm Startups, hosted a decade of networking events, and launched a sister fund, GSA Ventures. Two companies from our community have gone on to reach unicorn status. That wasn’t because of us, they were exceptional before they ever found us, but we’re proud they built part of that journey here.

Our community looks like the world our founders come from. About half are from Latin America. The rest have come from the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, and in the last while we’ve started seeing more founders arriving from Europe too. Thirty percent of our founders are women.

Government funding matters to us, and we intend to keep building on it. But it isn’t what built this. Government funding made up a much larger share of our budget in our early years than it does today. The larger share of where we stand now comes from the founders and companies who chose to work with us because of what we deliver, not because of who funds us.

That is the part of this milestone we actually want to sit with. Building a company in a new country is a hustle, for every founder who has done it here, that hustle was real, and mostly theirs. Ten years in, the fact that hundreds of them chose to do it with us is the thing worth carrying into the next ten.

Some of the companies that came through our programs in earlier cohorts aren’t early-stage anymore. They’ve built real products, found real customers, and grown into companies with something to teach. So instead of making this anniversary only about us, we’re handing the floor to them.
