Taking a Look Back: LatAm Startups Conference 8.0

LatAm Startups Conference 8.0

“The city of Toronto from the beginning of this event has been a proud supporter, and it’s in recognition of what LatAm Startups has done for prosperity and job creation” – John Tory, Mayor of Toronto

Already passing its eighth edition, this past May, we discussed various topics related to #RebuildingtheGlobalEconomy. Bringing together speakers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Uruguay, we were able to engage in the different perspectives of Canada, the Pacific Alliance, and Mercosur over the 3-day conference.

Leaders of the Canadian landscape joined us including Rachel Bendayan (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade), Claudia Krywiak (CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation), Claudio Rojas (CEO of Canada’s National Angel Capital Organization), and John Tory (Mayor of the City of Toronto).

Throughout the three days, we discussed how technology might impact the post-pandemic economy in the different regions and how startup mobility has been affected by the changes brought upon by the pandemic. Discussed was also the importance of the Start Up Visa program and the entrepreneurs that bring their businesses to Canada, which play a part in recovering the economy. Experienced entrepreneurs shared their personal experiences bringing their companies to Canada and the lessons learned from those processes.

Companies currently completing the LatAm Startups programming (B2B Negocios, RecoAI, Revyva, WeddingHero.ca, Zagitas, Easybook) competed in a pitch competition sponsored by OVHcloud, and per judges’ decision, RecoAI took home the 1000$ prize.

From those that attended from 38 different countries, the 20+ speakers from around the world, our sponsors, and our various community partners, we thank you for joining us. Now, putting behind this conference, LatAm Startups is excited to see the insights that were shared bear fruit in the global entrepreneur community in #RebuildingtheGlobalEconomy.
