““It’s like going to a party in a country different than yours and landing at that party without knowing anyone. The other scenario is going to the same party but being hosted by the party’s host that can introduce you to people.”—Carlos Secada, Founder (on the importance of LatAm’s help to softland in Toronto)
It’s no mystery that robots are starting to take over our lives. Nowadays it’s common to see news about self-driving cars and robots taking over repetitive tasks at fast-food restaurant chains.
Well, Zagitas saw an enormous business opportunity and started offering solutions with automation (RPA), artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in Peru. They provide digital robots, which integrate AI technologies, RPA, chatbots, BI, among other technologies, to become a digital assistant working in your office. It’s like having a digital co-worker. Digital co-workers can take on repetitive and tedious tasks using automation and artificial intelligence technologies. The technology they use is so effective, that they are able to achieve ROI quickly, generating results in just a few weeks.
They decided to expand their business to North America, having Toronto as a stepping-stone. As Carlos says about coming to Toronto to kickstart their North American journey: “Having been able to land in this new market with LatAm has provided us the opportunity to shorten that learning cycle, learning curve.”
One of the main drivers to choose this city was the high availability of government grants and other kinds of financing to start their business. Also the strategic location in the east coast compared to Vancouver or Montreal (francophone), made the decision of choosing Toronto even easier.
For Carlos and his team being able to be in one of North America’s most vibrant tech hubs has made a huge difference in his approach to the market. “It’s a different speed and a different experience when you are in the market, being able to interact directly with the mentors (that) do the network, develop those relationships with customers, with investors in a personal way.”
During their time in Toronto Zagitas has been able to achieve several important milestones, such as establishing the corporation in the Canadian market and getting their first customer. They also were able to get help and coaching from other accelerators besides LatAm, such as Accelerator Plus and Accelerator Centre.
Carlos has ambitious plans for both short and long term. “In two or three years we see ourselves as an important player in the process automation as a service market, being able to serve not only customers in Canada, but in the US and also starting to reach out to other English speaking markets.”
It is important to state that through the City of Toronto’s support, LatAm Startups has been able to provide programming that assists not only Zagitas, but all of the startups in our portfolio.
