Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay: 2022 was packed with events worldwide.

Startup Events

The end of the year is approaching, and we wanted to wrap-up our event activity during 2022. A lot of lessons learned, what we have planned going forward, and what to expect for 2023.

As the year comes to an end, we wanted to summarize what an amazing 2022 we had in terms of events. This year was the first after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic that had more in-person interaction. At LatAm Startups we took advantage of that and reconnected with our community worldwide.

Let’s take a look at this year’s highlights:

MARCH

Colombia (Bogotá – Medellín)

Meetups were hosted in Bogotá and Medellín with LatAm Startups’ key partners and connections. Member of LatAm Startups’ Board of Directors Rafael Pinto joined as host and special guest Claudio Ramirez, Canadian Trade Commissioner in Colombia, addressed “Why Canada?” sharing Canada’s great growth environment and opportunities for Colombian startups and entrepreneurs.

APRIL

Brazil (São Paulo)

In São Paulo we had the chance to connect with the Brazilian startup ecosystem, introducing our programs and community. This was a great opportunity to strengthen the bonds between the community of Canada and Latin America’s ecosystems.

JUNE

Toronto (Collision)

Collision welcomed more than 35,000 attendees this year. LatAm Startups attended and had a booth in the biggest tech event in Canada. Along with our partners Oziel Law and OVHcloud we were able to connect with part of the Canadian startup ecosystem and present to them our vision and how we help newcomers establish their businesses in Canada.

AUGUST

Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

Our fourth stop in South America was in the “Marvelous City” as they call Rio. The same dynamic took place as in São Paulo a couple of months ago. We had the chance to partner with the Government of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service and delivered a presentation on the benefits of expanding operations to Canada. Rafael Pinto was representing LatAm Startups one more time. Thanks Rafa for your long-standing support.

SEPTEMBER

Perú (Lima)

A little further north, we traveled to the amazing city of Lima, in the fifth and last stop in our 2022 roadshow. Perú has always been a good ally of Canada, hence a presentation of our programs and community was the perfect closure for our Latin American journey. Once again Rafael Pinto was in charge of delivering LatAm Startups’ presentation.

NOVEMBER

Portugal (Lisbon – Web Summit)

Web Summit in Lisbon was packed with amazing speakers and tons of tech enthusiasts that filled Altice Arena for the 3-day event. The event brought together 70,000+ people, and the companies redefining the tech industry. Carla Ramos, Operations Manager and Marcelle Soldá, Program Coordinator Market Validation and Market Entry were there to network and give visibility to our programs. We want to thank the City of Toronto for letting us be a part of the Canadian delegation that attended.

Uruguay (Montevideo – CUTI Business Forum)

The second week of November brought together the finest of the Uruguayan startup and tech ecosystem in Montevideo. CUTI Business Forum, hosted by Cámara Uruguaya de Tecnologías de la Información, was the perfect time to represent Canada and speak about the Startup Visa Program and other acceleration programs for technology companies expanding in North America. Special thanks to our friends and partners representing us Diego Cibils, Rafael Pinto, Tony Duckett, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service and the Canadian Ambassador in Uruguay for all the support provided to our organization.

Brazil (São Paulo – CASE)

To close the year we returned to the country of samba. Brazil has been a strategic partner and one of the most promising and emerging countries in the world that host thousands of tech startups. CASE, organized by Associação Brasileira de Startups, is the biggest event for startups and entrepreneurship in Latin America. We had the pleasure of attending once again with Rafael and Marcelle, who were beyond surprised with the huge reception LatAm Startups had in the Paulista tech ecosystem. What a way to close the year.

That’s a wrap for 2022, we can’t wait to see what 2023 has in place for us.
